Bio
Recruited from the North Ballarat Rebels with pick 53 in the 2007 National Draft, Kyle Cheney carved out a respectable career as a workmanlike defender known for his courage and ability to play on opponents taller than himself. His initial stint at Melbourne yielded limited opportunities during a difficult era for the club, leading to a trade to Hawthorn following the 2010 season. While Cheney proved to be a reliable depth player for the Hawks during their dominant premiership window, he found it difficult to cement a permanent spot in a star-studded backline and missed out on playing in their Grand Final victories. Seeking greater continuity, he moved to Adelaide ahead of the 2015 season where he enjoyed the most consistent period of his career, regularly utilised as a third tall defender who relied on desperate spoiling and defensive accountability. After drifting out of the senior side in his final years, he was delisted by the Crows at the conclusion of the 2018 season.
