Bio
Recruited from Sturt in the SANFL with pick 10 in the 1989 National Draft, Kym Russell arrived at Collingwood as a highly rated key position prospect joining his younger brother Scott at Victoria Park. Despite his high draft status, Russell struggled to break into a formidable Magpies lineup that secured the 1990 premiership, forcing him to bide his time in the reserves during his first season. He eventually made his senior debut in Round 1, 1991 against Essendon, but found opportunities limited as the club navigated a difficult premiership defence. After managing just three games and a solitary goal, he was delisted and returned to South Australia to continue his career with the Double Blues.
