Bio
Originally selected by the Brisbane Lions with pick eight in the 2007 National Draft, Lachie Henderson played just two seasons in Queensland before becoming the centrepiece of the blockbuster trade that sent Brendan Fevola north. Arriving at Carlton for the 2010 season, Henderson established himself as a prototypical swingman, capable of impacting the contest as a marking target inside 50 or marshalling the backline against key forwards. His versatility was highly valued at Princes Park, culminating in a third-place finish in the 2013 John Nicholls Medal, but the club's on-field stagnation eventually saw him request a trade to Geelong at the end of 2015.
At Kardinia Park, Henderson largely shelved his dual-position utility to settle permanently as a key defender. Known for his ability to read the flight of the ball and take courageous intercept marks, he became a vital cog in the Cats' defensive structure. His tenure at Geelong required resilience; after falling out of favour and being delisted then re-rookied for list management purposes in late 2019, he fought his way back into the senior side to produce some of the best football of his career. He retired at the end of 2021 as a respected 200-game player, hanging up the boots shortly after featuring in the Cats' Grand Final loss to Melbourne.
