Family

Recruited by Greater Western Sydney with the third overall selection in the 2012 National Draft, Lachie Plowman struggled to justify his high price tag during the Giants' formative years. Hampered by injuries and inconsistent form, he managed just 20 appearances across three seasons in Sydney's west before seeking a fresh start. He arrived at Princes Park ahead of the 2016 season as part of a significant multi-player trade that saw four Giants head south, effectively reuniting with former list manager Stephen Silvagni in a bid to revitalise his career.

At Carlton, Plowman established himself as a dependable, albeit understated, medium defender. Tasked primarily with lockdown roles on the opposition's most dangerous small and medium forwards, his game was defined by defensive discipline rather than ball accumulation, often sacrificing his own output to nullify an opponent. While his conservative style and lack of offensive drive occasionally made him a polarizing figure among supporters, he remained a fixture in the best 22 under multiple coaches who valued his reliability and courage in one-on-one contests. Plowman eventually fell out of favour as the Blues' defensive depth improved under Michael Voss, retiring at the conclusion of the 2023 season.
