Bio
Selected with pick 3 in the 2006 National Draft from Gippsland Power, Lachlan Hansen arrived at Arden Street with the heavy expectations typical of a top-tier key position prospect. For the first half of his career, he operated as a utility swingman, shuffled between the forward line and defence as the coaching staff attempted to harness his athleticism and overhead strength. While he showed glimpses of potential as a goal-kicker, Hansen eventually found his true calling as a loose man in defence, where his elite intercept marking and ability to read the play became pivotal to North Melbourne's backline structure.
Despite his prowess in the air, Hansen's career was frequently hampered by injuries and bouts of inconsistent form, which notably affected his participation in the club's deep finals runs in 2014 and 2015. Although he became a reliable interceptor and a fan favourite for his courageous playing style, he fell out of favour as the club looked to revitalise its list. After more than a decade of service and 151 games in the royal blue and white, he was delisted at the conclusion of the 2017 season during North Melbourne's aggressive roster rebuild.
