Bio
Originally a soccer player from Gympie, Queensland, Lachlan Keeffe was identified by Collingwood scouts for his height and athleticism rather than a traditional junior football pedigree. He joined the Magpies via the rookie list in 2009 and gradually developed into a key defensive option, using his 204cm frame to spoil and intercept. His time at Collingwood was defined by a significant interruption in 2015, when he and teammate Josh Thomas served two-year bans after testing positive for a banned substance. Although Keeffe returned to the field in 2017, he struggled to cement a permanent spot and was delisted at the conclusion of that season.
Greater Western Sydney offered Keeffe a lifeline as a delisted free agent ahead of the 2018 season, a move that extended his career by another eight years. At the Giants, he reinvented himself as a versatile swingman, capable of filling gaps in defence, presenting as a tall target forward, or pinch-hitting in the ruck when injuries struck the club's primary stocks. While often operating on the fringe of the best 22, his ability to play multiple roles made him a valuable depth player for the Giants. His persistence was rewarded when he eventually bypassed the 100-game milestone, retiring in 2025 as a highly respected clubman who maximized his opportunities after his earlier career setbacks.
