Stats
Bio
Lance Wilkinson arrived at Glenferrie Oval in 1949 via the amateur ranks, recruited from the State Savings Bank side in the VAFA where he had already earned state selection. Standing just 170cm, he was a diminutive rover and wingman who relied on agility and skill to impact the contest. Despite his light frame, Wilkinson became a durable fixture in the Hawthorn lineup, providing consistent service through the midfield during a period when the club largely struggled near the bottom of the ladder.
His individual quality was recognised in 1955 when he earned selection to represent Victoria in an interstate match against South Australia. Winning a "Big V" jumper while playing for a struggling side was a significant achievement, highlighting his standing as one of the competition's respected small men. After eight seasons and 116 senior games, he left the VFL at the end of 1956 to continue his career with Brighton in the VFA.
