Stats
Bio
Arriving at the Lakeside Oval with a formidable reputation from the Sunraysia district, Laurie Leask was a diminutive but skilled rover who had already claimed the Pollock Medal as the best and fairest in the Mildura League. Standing just 164cm, he made an immediate impression in the city, dominating the lower grades to win the VFL Reserves Best and Fairest in 1936. Despite his prolific form in the seconds—where he also claimed South Melbourne’s reserves club champion award—he found senior opportunities scarce in a strong Bloods lineup, managing 11 games and 11 goals across two seasons. Leask returned to the country in 1938 to join Workers FC, where he further cemented his status as a regional great by winning another league medal and later captain-coaching Mildura to the 1946 premiership.
