Bio
Recruited from Leongatha, Laurie Moloney arrived at Essendon in 1971 as a skilful ball-user who quickly adapted to the top level. While he started his career on the wing, he played his best football after shifting to the back pocket, where his precise kicking and composure under pressure became key assets for the Bombers' defence. His consistency and development were formally recognised when he won the club's Most Improved Player award in 1973. Moloney departed Windy Hill midway through the 1976 season to join Oakleigh in the VFA, eventually continuing his career interstate as a captain-coach for Mayne in Queensland and Belconnen in the ACT.
