Bio
A versatile tall recruited from Ivanhoe, Laurie Murphy was a valuable utility for Collingwood capable of alternating between the ruck and the half-back line. His athleticism and strength were recognised with three selections for Victoria, yet his club career at Victoria Park was defined by agonising near-misses, including appearances in the losing 1922 and 1925 Grand Finals. In a twist of poor timing, Murphy departed the Magpies just one season prior to the beginning of the legendary "Machine" era premiership streak. After sitting out the 1927 season, he resumed his career with North Melbourne, providing experienced support to the VFL's newest club as they established their foothold in the league.
