Bio
Recruited from Dingley and Haileybury College, Laurie Queay was a promising ruck-rover who graduated through the Demons' underage ranks, notably playing in the club's 1971 Under 19s premiership side. After stringing together consistent performances in the reserves, he broke into the senior lineup late in the 1972 season, booting two goals across his two VFL appearances before returning to the seconds. While his time at the elite level was brief, Queay embarked on a remarkable footballing odyssey following his delisting, becoming a true journeyman of the national game. His post-Melbourne career saw him compete in the VFA with Dandenong and Doveton before crisscrossing the continent to play for clubs in Tasmania (Burnie), South Australia (Port Augusta), Queensland, the ACT (Manuka), and finally Sydney, where he captain-coached Western Suburbs.
