Bio
Recruited from the Sale Football Club in Gippsland, Laurie Stephenson was a promising forward who joined his brother Bill at the Saints in the late 1950s. He showed immediate aptitude in front of the big sticks, booting 21 majors in just 15 senior appearances across two seasons and averaging better than a goal a game during a lean era for the club. However, his VFL career was curtailed by the same persistent knee issues that plagued his brother, preventing him from establishing a long-term spot in the side. Stephenson eventually returned to the country to captain-coach Sale, where he remained a prolific goal kicker and a respected figure in the Latrobe Valley competition.
