Teams

Recruited from Old Haileybury, Lawrence Bingham was a rarity in the late 1980s as a 200cm ruckman born in England. He began his senior career with Hawthorn during the club's golden era, but found himself stuck in the queue behind established premiership rucks like Greg Dear and Stephen Lawrence, managing just three senior appearances over three seasons at Glenferrie Oval. Seeking greater opportunity, Bingham was traded to St Kilda prior to the 1992 season in exchange for a draft pick. The move revitalised his career, as he established himself as a primary ruck option for the Saints, notably shouldering the bulk of the ruck work during the 1993 season where he led the club in hitouts. While he never kicked a goal at the highest level, his height and tap work made him a serviceable contest player before he finished his tenure at Moorabbin in 1994.
