Bio
Recruited from Greensborough in the Diamond Valley, Lee Adamson was a slender yet tenacious half-back flanker who made an immediate impression at Victoria Park. After progressing through the under-19s and reserves, he cemented his spot in the senior side during his debut 1966 season, culminating in a Grand Final appearance against St Kilda. Known for his dashing rebound and fearless attack on the ball, Adamson became a mainstay of the Magpie defence, though his career narrative is inextricably linked to the 1970 finals series. In a notorious tribunal hearing, he was falsely accused of racial vilification by Carlton’s Syd Jackson—a fabrication Jackson admitted to decades later—which allowed the Blue to escape suspension for the Grand Final. While Adamson eventually retired at just 27 due to persistent shoulder and knee injuries, he returned to Collingwood as a respected skills and reserves coach, contributing to the club's 1990 premiership success.
