Bio
Selected with pick 15 in the 2021 National Draft from Central District, Leek Aleer arrived at GWS with a reputation built on his record-breaking vertical leap and raw athletic potential. Born in Kenya to South Sudanese parents before settling in Adelaide, he overcame significant early injury setbacks in the SANFL to become a first-round prospect. An explosive key defender, Aleer is best defined by his spectacular intercept marking and capacity to spoil contests from seemingly impossible positions, famously producing a match-saving fist against Geelong in 2024. Despite these highlights, his tenure at the Giants has been punctuated by injury and fierce competition for spots, causing him to miss the entire 2023 season and struggle for continuity in a defence anchored by Sam Taylor. With 25 games across his first five years on the list, Aleer remains a tantalising talent working to convert his high-flying potential into a permanent role in the senior side.
