Bio
Recruited from the Sandringham Dragons with pick 46 in the 2002 National Draft, Leigh Fisher was a versatile defender who often punched above his weight for St Kilda. A courageous backman capable of playing on both small and tall forwards, he established himself as a regular in the senior side during the mid-2000s, using his endurance to run with opponents or rebound from the back half. However, Fisher found opportunities scarce during the disciplined Ross Lyon era; he did not play a senior match after mid-2008, spending the 2009 season in the VFL before being delisted and briefly handed a lifeline via the rookie list for 2010. While he was unable to break into the Saints' Grand Final lineups, Fisher successfully reinvented himself post-retirement, carving out a significant second career as a field umpire and becoming the first former player in VFL/AFL history to officiate 200 senior matches.
