Bio
Recruited from the Frankston Bombers on the Mornington Peninsula, Leigh Gloury was a smaller-bodied utility who featured for Melbourne during the foundational years of the Norm Smith dynasty. He broke into the senior side in 1953, playing eight games in his debut season, but found consistency difficult to maintain in a rapidly improving squad. Gloury added just four more appearances in 1954, unable to secure a permanent spot in a midfield rotation packed with emerging superstars like Ron Barassi and Stuart Spencer. He left the VFL landscape just as the Demons began their historic run of premierships in 1955, ultimately serving as a depth player who helped bridge the gap to the club's greatest era.
