Bio
Recruited from the Reservoir Colts, Len Clark was a gifted athlete and Under-19s captain whose VFL career was curiously defined by unfulfilled potential despite his obvious talent. Utilised primarily as a running defender or winger due to his professional-level sprinting speed, he struggled to cement a permanent spot in a powerful Collingwood lineup, often finding himself on the fringe of selection. His most agonizing moment came in 1966 when, after fighting back from a knee injury to play in the Second Semi-Final, he was heartbreakingly omitted for the Grand Final loss to St Kilda. Unable to secure a regular place in the senior 22, he departed Victoria Park in 1969 following a disagreement with coach Bob Rose, subsequently reinventing himself as a prolific, premiership-winning forward in the VFA and WAFL—a stellar second act that left many Magpies fans wondering if they had played him out of position.
