Bio
Recruited from Healesville, Len "Chickenman" Halley was a solid, reliable ruckman who progressed through the Essendon grades, highlighted by an Under-19s Best and Fairest and a reserves premiership in 1968. After breaking into the senior lineup in 1970, his career momentum was significantly interrupted the following season when he was called up for National Service, restricting him to just five games. Halley returned to play a career-high 17 matches in 1972, winning the club's Best Clubman award for his selfless attitude, but he struggled to maintain a permanent spot in the senior 22 the following year despite dominating at the lower level to win the Reserves Best and Fairest. Seeking opportunities elsewhere, he headed interstate and forged a successful legacy in the WAFL, becoming a key member of West Perth's 1975 premiership side that demolished South Fremantle.
