Bio
Standing a colossal 203cm, South Australian giant Len Mills arrived in the VFL as a 31-year-old mature-age recruit who was widely considered the tallest player in the league's history at the time. Originally a premiership player with SANFL club West Torrens and a World War I veteran who had served in France, Mills made an immediate impact upon joining St Kilda in 1929, booting three goals on debut. He crossed to Hawthorn the following season, where he utilised his immense reach to finish second in the club's goalkicking despite playing just eight games. Although his VFL career was limited to a brief cameo late in his sporting life, Mills remains a unique figure in league history as a towering full-forward who averaged two goals a game during his short stint.
