Teams

One of the era’s ultimate journeymen, Len Phillips carved out a unique career that saw him represent seven different senior clubs across eleven consecutive seasons. Originally from Healesville, the fast and skilful rover started his tenure in the VFA with Melbourne City and Brighton before breaking into the VFL with St Kilda in 1914, where he showed immediate promise by kicking six goals in five games. Rather than settling at the Junction Oval, Phillips spent the First World War years in Western Australia playing for West Perth, eventually returning to Victoria to sign with Essendon for the 1918 season. Although his stint with the Same Olds was limited to just four appearances, he continued his nomadic path in the VFA with Footscray and Hawthorn, leaving a legacy defined by his versatility and willingness to travel for a game.
