Len Templar

Hailing from the goldfields region of Victoria, Len Templar was a highly sought-after talent from Redan who signed with North Melbourne despite strong interest from Footscray and Hawthorn. He arrived at Arden Street with a reputation for blistering speed—a trait that would later define his post-football life as a prominent professional athletics coach—and quickly established himself as a dashing wingman and half-forward. Templar possessed a sharp eye for goal, averaging nearly a major per game by using his pace to break lines and drift into scoring positions. Although his VFL career was relatively brief, he was a consistent performer for the Shinboners during the mid-1950s before returning to the country, where he forged a legendary status as a player and coach in the Ballarat Football League.
