Leo Clements was a mature-age recruit who arrived at Glenferrie Oval from South Bendigo, joining Hawthorn during a challenging era for the club in the early 1930s. Making his VFL debut at age 25 in Round 11 of the 1933 season, he was brought in to add experience to a side that struggled for competitiveness and ultimately claimed that year's wooden spoon. Clements managed just seven senior appearances across two seasons, failing to register a goal or cement a permanent position in the lineup before drifting out of the league after the 1934 season. His contribution to the club is remembered alongside his service to the nation, as he later enlisted in the Australian Army, earning him a place on Hawthorn's war service honour board.
