Bio
Born into a well-known footballing family that included his brothers Bill (Collingwood) and Eugene (Hawthorn VFA), Leo Glynn was a tough, resilient defender whose path to the VFL was anything but straightforward. Originally developing his craft with Hawthorn Districts and Collingwood Districts, his career was nearly ended in 1925 when he suffered severe head injuries in a collision with a taxi while riding his motorbike. Despite the long road to recovery and a stint with Brunswick in the VFA, he eventually broke through for a senior debut with Essendon in 1930 at the mature age of 26. Glynn managed nine games in his solitary season at Windy Hill, playing primarily as a backman, with his brief VFL tenure standing as a remarkable testament to his determination to overcome a life-threatening accident.
