Bio
Recruited from Yarrawonga in the Ovens & Murray Football League, Leo Hicks was a wartime footballer whose VFL career was brief but spanned two foundation clubs. He initially broke into the senior ranks with Fitzroy in 1942, playing four games as a mid-sized option before crossing to Collingwood the following season. A wingman standing 175cm, Hicks spent the majority of his time at Victoria Park in the seconds, but he earned a solitary senior call-up in Round 15, 1943, where he notably booted a goal against his former side, the Maroons. His career stands as a representative example of the transient player lists during the Second World War, filling a vital role for clubs heavily impacted by military service availability.
