Bio
A sturdy footballer with a distinct industrial background, Leo McCulloch was plucked from the Richmond Depot Tramways team to make his VFL debut for the Tigers in 1918. Described at the time as a "heavy chap" suited to the physical contests of the era, he managed three senior appearances and a goal during the final year of the Great War before drifting back to the sub-district ranks with Caulfield. His top-level career appeared over until eight years later, when he was offered a lifeline by league newcomers Hawthorn, a club then scouring the lower grades for mature bodies to bolster their struggling list. McCulloch spent the majority of the 1926 season in the reserves, managing just a single senior game for the Mayblooms before retiring from the VFL to work for the Carlton & United Breweries.
