Bio
Recruited from West Melbourne, Leo McInerney arrived at Essendon in 1918 as a utility capable of playing at both ends of the ground, notably booting two goals on debut against Richmond. Despite this promising start, his time in the VFL was short-lived, managing just a dozen appearances across two seasons before crossing to Brunswick in the VFA midway through 1919. It was in the Association that McInerney truly flourished, transforming into a prolific full-forward who topped the league's goalkicking table in both 1925 and 1929. A key figure in Brunswick's 1925 premiership side, he is best remembered as a genuine goal-kicking force in the VFA—where he bagged nearly 500 goals—rather than for his brief stint at Windy Hill.
