Bio
Arriving at Princes Park as a proven winner from the VFA, Leo Oprey had already tasted back-to-back premiership success with Oakleigh in 1930 and 1931 before making the step up to VFL level. A diminutive wingman standing just 168cm, he relied on pace and agility to impact contests, quickly cementing a spot in the Carlton lineup during his debut season. His first year at the club peaked with a selection in the 1932 Grand Final, where he lined up against Richmond—the club where he had originally played reserves football—in a narrow defeat. Despite playing 31 games across two seasons and proving himself largely reliable on the wing, Oprey’s time in the VFL was short-lived, and he eventually returned to the VFA to play with Coburg and Brighton.
