Bio
Recruited from the local Leopold club, Leon Beer broke into the South Melbourne lineup as a teenager in 1921, debuting in the opening round of the season. Operating largely as a wingman, he struggled to secure a permanent place in the senior side, finding himself in and out of the team as the Southerners drifted through the middle of the ladder. He managed a handful of appearances in each of his three seasons at the Lake Oval but could not translate his early opportunities into a long-term career. After playing his final game in late 1923, he departed the VFL scene having served primarily as a depth player during a transitional period for the club.
