Bio
Hailing from the Gippsland town of Maffra, Les Beck graduated from the Carlton Juniors to become a defensive pillar during the Blues' most dominant era. His senior career began with a dramatic stroke of fortune; after managing just five games in his debut 1906 season, he was a shock recall for the Grand Final following a training injury to teammate Bert Parke, seizing the opportunity to help secure the club's maiden premiership. Beck immediately cemented his spot as a reliable back pocket and full-back, renowned for his sure hands and long, clearing kicks that relieved pressure on the last line of defence. He etched his name into history as one of the "Immortal Eleven" to feature in Carlton’s historic premiership hat-trick from 1906 to 1908. His time at Princes Park ended abruptly in 1909 when he was one of several stars to walk out on the club in a show of loyalty to ousted coach Jack Worrall, eventually concluding his playing days in the VFA with Port Melbourne.
