Stats
Bio
Recruited from Elsternwick, Les Gallagher burst onto the VFL scene as a dangerous forward for St Kilda, notably booting five goals in just his second league appearance. He crossed to Richmond in 1926, where he transformed into a versatile and pacy utility capable of playing as a centreman, ruck-rover, or half-forward. Known for his skill and strong overhead marking, Gallagher’s consistent form saw him selected to represent Victoria in 1926 and 1929. His time at Punt Road was marked by team success but ultimate frustration, as he played in the Tigers’ back-to-back Grand Final losses in 1927 and 1928. The cousin of teammate Harry Weidner, Gallagher eventually departed the VFL to become a premiership-winning captain-coach for Warrnambool in the Western District.
