Bio
Recruited from VFA club Prahran, Les "Bubba" Gardner arrived at the Junction Oval with a strong reputation after claiming the Two Blues' best and fairest award in 1945. A solid 178cm midfielder who could also rotate through the half-forward line, he was immediately selected for the senior side to open the 1947 season. Gardner played the first three matches of the year for St Kilda but struggled to retain his place in the starting 22 and was omitted following Round 3. He ultimately returned to the VFA, where he continued a respectable state-league career with stints at Williamstown and a return to Prahran.
