Bio
Hailing from the New South Wales border towns of Howlong and Albury, Les Gregory was a talented country footballer whose VFL career was defined and curtailed by the Second World War. Although he attracted significant interest from Melbourne scouts as early as 1937, he remained in the bush until his service with the RAAF eventually brought him to Victoria. A Warrant Officer who played for various local teams across Australia depending on his military postings, Gregory was a mature-age recruit of 29 when he finally earned his debut for Carlton in Round 17, 1944. He managed just two senior games across the 1944 and 1945 seasons, filling a role as a wartime utility while the club's regular stars were unavailable, before being discharged from the Air Force in late 1945 and returning to regional football.
