Stats
Bio
Recruited from the Essendon VFA club, Moonee Ponds native Les Irwin entered the VFL with Melbourne in the opening round of the 1909 season. A follower capable of rotating through the forward line, he played 15 games over two seasons for the Redlegs during a relatively lean era for the club. Irwin crossed to Richmond for the 1911 season in search of a fresh start, adding depth to the Tigers' playing list, but he managed only five senior appearances at Punt Road before his top-level career concluded. Though his time in the VFL was brief, Irwin is remembered as a workmanlike contributor who successfully bridged the gap between the Association and the League during the competition's formative years.
