Stats
Bio
Recruited from Chelsea while serving in the Army during World War II, Les Jones experienced a whirlwind introduction to league football, finding himself in a Grand Final in just his third senior appearance. The powerfully built follower made his debut in Round 18 of the 1944 season after being granted military leave, and immediately retained his spot for the finals campaign. However, his rapid ascent hit a hurdle on Grand Final day against Fitzroy when he sustained a leg injury and was replaced at half-time. A robust ruck-rover capable of sharing the heavy physical workload with legend Jack Dyer, Jones established himself as a consistent performer in the post-war years, finishing third in the 1947 Best and Fairest and winning the club's Most Determined trophy in 1946. He departed Punt Road at the end of 1949 to take up a captain-coach position with Yallourn in the Gippsland league.
