Bio
The son of long-serving Melbourne trainer Jim Mitchell, Les Mitchell was a diminutive rover who found his way onto the senior list for the 1910 season. Standing just 168cm, his pathway to the top flight was physically demanding, and his debut was marred by a serious injury—cited in some quarters as a broken leg—that sidelined him for a significant chunk of the year. While he recovered to register three senior games and boot a solitary goal for the Redlegs, the setback effectively stalled his VFL momentum before it truly began. Unable to consolidate a regular place in the side, Mitchell eventually left the game's highest level and later served in the AIF during the First World War.
