Stats
Bio
A prolific country spearhead recruited from Maldon, Les Murray arrived at Footscray with a formidable reputation after booting a century of goals in the local league during the 1950 season. Standing 183cm, he was given an immediate opportunity in the senior lineup, debuting in Round 1 of 1951 and holding his spot for the first 11 consecutive matches of the year. While he showed glimpses of his scoring instinct with a three-goal haul against Melbourne at the MCG, Murray found it difficult to replicate his rural dominance against the tighter checking of VFL defenders. He managed just six majors for the season and lost his place in the side after the mid-year clash with Hawthorn, with his brief VFL career concluding as he returned to country football.
