Bio
Les Rennie was a wingman who holds a unique place in Essendon history as a pioneer of the recruiting pathway from the local Woodlands club, a route that would famously deliver triple Brownlow Medallist Dick Reynolds just two years later. Arriving at Windy Hill in 1931, he followed in the footsteps of his older brother Artie, who had represented the Bombers in the late 1920s. Rennie played 13 senior games in his solitary VFL season, operating primarily along the wing where he looked to drive the ball forward for a side that finished mid-table. After departing Essendon, he continued his career in the reserves competition, spending time at Footscray before becoming a premiership player with Melbourne's seconds. Off the field, Rennie was a well-known figure in the local area as a talented district cricketer and tool maker.
