Bio
A mature-age recruit from the small Mallee town of Cowangie, Les Richards earned his opportunity with North Melbourne during the club's formative years in the VFL. He made his debut midway through the 1928 season and managed to hit the scoreboard with a goal during his brief two-game stint, though he was unable to cement a permanent spot in the senior side. While his top-level football career was short-lived, his story is often remembered for its tragic conclusion shortly after he left the game; while working for the British Phosphate Commission on Ocean Island in 1930, Richards was killed in a workplace accident at the age of 27.
