Bio
Born Leslie Collins but playing under his stepfather's surname, Les Rogers was a wingman recruited from Yarraville who managed a brief cameo at the top level. He broke into the Essendon side midway through the 1915 season, playing three consecutive games between Rounds 5 and 7, but was unable to establish a long-term place in the team before duty called. Rogers enlisted in the AIF almost immediately after his final VFL appearance, serving with the 23rd Battalion in France. His career stands as a solemn footnote in league history, cut short when he was killed in action at Pozières in August 1916 aged just 20.
