Les Weate

Born in Carlton, Les Weate was a persistent fringe player who provided depth for South Melbourne during the club's transition years in the early 1900s. Despite spanning four seasons on the club's radar, Weate struggled to secure a permanent place in the senior lineup, managing sporadic appearances as a top-up player when regulars were unavailable. He debuted in 1904 and played two matches, followed by a solitary appearance in 1905, before earning a final recall two years later in 1907. In his fourth and final VFL game against Fitzroy at Brunswick Street, Weate played as a forward and booted his only career goal, leaving the league with a brief but serviceable record as a reliable clubman who filled the breach when required.
