Bio
Recruited from Broken Hill West in New South Wales, Les Witto was a promising defender whose VFL career was cut short by tragedy after just one season. Joining the Blues in 1926, he quickly broke into the senior side and held his place for six matches, showing potential in the backline. His final appearance came against Geelong in Round 14, where he sustained a broken arm during play. While the fracture itself initially appeared manageable, Witto developed a severe tetanus infection resulting from the injury and passed away in hospital just nine days later. His premature death at the age of 23 remains one of the more sorrowful chapters in Carlton's history, marking him as a player taken far too soon.
