Bio
Recruited from VFA club Williamstown, Les Woodfield initially found himself at Essendon in 1921 due to strict residential zoning rules, despite strong interest from South Melbourne. He spent two seasons at Windy Hill—briefly featuring alongside his brother Clarrie—but returned to the Seagulls for a short stint in 1922 after finding himself on the fringe of selection. He finally secured a clearance to the Lake Oval in 1923, reuniting with Clarrie in the red and white. A consistent wingman known for his reliability through the centre line, Woodfield became a staple of the South Melbourne side for five years, playing the majority of his senior football with the Southerners before hanging up his boots at the end of the 1927 season.
