Bio
A quintessential football journeyman from South Gippsland, Sharpe was a tall ruckman and follower who punctuated his VFL career with lucrative country coaching stints. Originally recruited from Loch, he broke into the St Kilda side as a teenager before departing midway through 1927 to play for Wonthaggi, establishing a pattern that defined his playing days. He returned to the league two years later for his most consistent spell at Footscray, where he played 19 games over two seasons, but again left the city to captain-coach Blackwood. His reputation as a capable big man saw him lured back to the VFL twice more—first by Fitzroy in 1932 and finally by Essendon in 1934—though both comebacks were sandwiched around a premiership-winning season as captain-coach of Dalyston.
