Teams

Recruited from Healesville in the Yarra Valley, Lewis Leslie joined South Melbourne as a promising forward prospect ahead of the 1954 season. He broke into the senior side in Round 4 of his debut year and was initially deployed in attack, where his solid frame and goal sense made him a useful option for the Bloods. However, he found it difficult to cement a permanent position in the starting eighteen, often rotating between the forward flank and the bench during a lean era for the club. Leslie managed 22 games over three seasons before departing the VFL at the end of 1956, after which he established a strong legacy in country football, notably serving as a respected coach for Yarrawonga in the Ovens & Murray Football League.
