Recruited from a rugby union background at the Shore School in North Sydney, Lewis Roberts-Thomson was selected by the Swans with pick 29 in the 2001 National Draft. Despite an occasionally unorthodox and gangly style that initially drew skepticism, he developed into a disciplined key position player, eventually securing a massive cult following among Swans fans. He cemented his place in club folklore with a standout performance at centre half-back during the 2005 Grand Final, where his desperate spoiling and composure were pivotal in breaking the club's 72-year premiership drought.

As his career progressed, Roberts-Thomson evolved from a permanent defender into a valuable swingman and relief ruckman. His ability to compete in the air and create contests allowed him to transition effectively into the forward line, playing a key role in the 2012 premiership victory as a marking target who could pinch-hit in the ruck. Although injuries, particularly hamstring and hip issues, limited his output in his final seasons, he retired in 2014 as a dual premiership player and a beloved one-club servant who maximised his athletic traits to become an integral part of the Swans' most successful era.
