Bio
Recruited from the Geelong Falcons with pick 28 in the 2013 National Draft, Lewis Taylor overcame concerns about his diminutive stature to make an immediate impact at AFL level. He is best remembered for his stellar debut season with the Brisbane Lions, where his high accumulation and dashing run saw him edge out Marcus Bontempelli to win the 2014 AFL Rising Star award. A creative small forward capable of pushing into the midfield, Taylor became a staple of the Lions' lineup during their rebuilding years, utilising his speed and low centre of gravity to break lines and link up play.
As Brisbane climbed the ladder and bolstered their forward stocks, Taylor fell out of favour and requested a trade to the Sydney Swans ahead of the 2020 season in search of greater opportunity. However, he struggled to break into a settled Swans outfit, adding just 12 games to his tally across three seasons while fluctuating between the senior side and the reserves. Despite dominating at state league level—highlighted by winning the VFL Player of the Year award in 2021—he could not translate that form into a permanent senior role and was delisted at the conclusion of 2022.
