Bio
Selected with the tenth overall pick in the 2011 National Draft by Greater Western Sydney, Liam Sumner joined the club's inaugural squad as a talented midfield-forward prospect from the Sandringham Dragons. Despite his high draft standing and natural pace, Sumner struggled to establish himself in the Giants' senior side, hampered by recurring foot and soft-tissue injuries that restricted him to just 12 games over four seasons. Seeking a fresh start, he was traded to Carlton at the end of 2015 as part of a broader exchange of Giants players reuniting with former list manager Stephen Silvagni. While he managed a career-high 20 games in his debut season with the Blues playing primarily as a pressure forward, he fell out of favour the following year and was delisted at the conclusion of the 2017 season.
