Bio
Recruited from the Oakleigh Chargers with pick 9 in the 2011 Rookie Draft, Lin Jong made history as the first AFL player of East Timorese descent. An athletic midfielder-forward known for his burst speed and willingness to attack the contest, his decade-long tenure at the Western Bulldogs was severely hampered by a succession of major injuries, ranging from broken bones to a ruptured ACL. His resilience was most famously displayed during the 2016 finals campaign; after suffering a broken collarbone in the AFL Elimination Final, he returned within weeks to win the Norm Goss Medal as best on ground in the club's VFL premiership victory, narrowly missing out on the senior side's historic flag. Despite attracting interest from Collingwood late in that season, Jong remained a one-club player, retiring in 2021 as a genuine cult hero admired for his bravery and team-first attitude.
