Recruited from local club Fairfield, Lindsay Dyring was a serviceable defender who played his football for Fitzroy during the tumultuous World War II era. Standing 175cm, he was a consistent contributor in the back half, often tasked with nullifying opposition small forwards or providing drive from defence. His career is best defined by the bittersweet 1944 season; Dyring was a regular fixture in the side, playing 13 matches to help propel the Gorillas into finals contention, but ultimately missed out on selection for the historic Grand Final victory over Richmond. Despite the heartbreak of missing the premiership side, he remained loyal to the club, playing out two more seasons before finishing his VFL career with 45 games.
